Fracking Legacy – Margaret River’s Whicher Range

The Magnificent Whicher Range in WA’s Margaret River Tourism Region was fracked in 2004. Diesel oil was used as the fracking fluid and more than 500,000 litres of the pollutant remains down one of the fracked wells. The experimental technique failed. Now another company wants to try to get the super tight gas out of the range.

A fracking ban currently protects the region from fracking but the gas industry is working hard to work out another way to extract the gas from the region. The fracking technologies we currently have do not work on the clay soils of the south west of WA.
